De-Manufacturing Consent- “The CIA Has Become the Phoenix”

On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent: Guillermo is joined by CIA expert and author of The Phoenix Program, Douglas Valentine. Douglas explains how the CIA’s proposed “sweeping organizational changes,” as reported in the Washington Post, are the natural evolution of a process that began in 1967 with the Phoenix Program in Vietnam.
Douglas breaks down the current structure of the CIA, and why there is no longer a need for the “old-fashioned” directorates. We discuss how the agency has benefited from the politics of the “war on terror;” how it aims to controls the political, economic , and social movements of the planet, including within the United States; and its influence in the corporate and pseudo-alternative media. Lastly, we discuss how the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency tactics born out of the CIA’s Phoenix Program have expanded beyond the agency itself, and are now employed by virtually every law enforcement and intelligence agency in the country. Paramilitary units, like the CIA’s death squads in Vietnam, Latin America, and Iraq, are now patrolling American streets under the guise of local “police departments.” Now that the general public has finally taken notice, will it become another “normalized inconvenience,” or will the American people do something about it?
